"Fluidity 26"

It makes sense for an artist to paint with colors that they love.  Right?

In my case my home, studio, and clothing are included in that statement
and whether its pillows, clothing, artwork or tablecloths....they all go together.

So I was very pleased after redecorating my home recently
to find that my new addition of soft grey and indigo
to my home & palette, were the current colors of
Fixer Upper, Pottery Barn, Target, Crate & Barrel and Kate Spade!
It made it so easy to go and spend money!

It also means that if you are shopping there too,
my artwork will coordinate perfectly on your walls.  TaDa!!

"Fluidity 24"

Had fun being a bit messy with this one.
Individually, the colors are glorious, but together the green is not my first choice.
As someone smart once said
"There is no bad color -  just a great color in the wrong place".

"Fluidity 23"

In Florida, this is our "Season" - when the weather is milder than anywhere else
and we are fortunate to enjoy lovely sunny days without melting.
But it also means our restaurants, roads and stores are packed with tourists,
and it takes a lot longer to accomplish anything.
Plus, it's when family & friends visit and marriages take place.

All of which has been cutting in to painting time in my studio!
However, I have managed to produce a few things to post
and here is Day 23 of my Fluidity Series.

Fluidity 17

Took a little break from the 30 in 30 to work on some larger canvas pieces.
It's not that painting these small pieces takes very long -
it's the work afterwards that is time consuming.
A typical scenario is...... photographing artwork,
downloading photo to computer, editing photo,
writing blog post, downloading photo to blog,
downloading photo to 30 in 30 site,
downloading photo to Instagram and finally to FB.
Or.....I could work on my larger canvases.
It's a no-brainer!

"Fluidity # 12"

This is the last piece for now using the rubber catalyst
and the colors are Prussian Blue & white.
Working on paper rather than canvas, produced more
intense colors due to immediate absorbency.

On my previous blog post I attached a website link to Seungyoon Choi
from Seoul, who is brilliant at this technique.
I also posted it on my Instagram account
and he replied with a very nice comment, that you can read here.

"Fluidity # 11"

I am so impressed with the work of Seungyoon Choi
who is the ultimate master of this technique
that I am attempting for the 30 Day Challenge.
Check out his site at www.choiseungyoon.com/
and watch some of his videos - amazing!

I tried for a little more spontaneity in the movement with this one.
Note to self...adding a second color when the first one is still wet
creates a potential for disaster (which I barely avoided :-).

Not that Seungyoon Choi has any difficulty with multiple colors!

Sigh....

"Fluidity #10"

In keeping with my plan for the 30 Day Challenge, trying to work in 3's,
today I have changed technique from spraying with water
to smearing with a Catalyst rubber-y thing-y.
Also thought I needed to work larger and on canvas.
This is the kind of technique that may look easy but in 60 seconds
the canvas is mucked up and theres nothing to do about it but start over!
Pick a simple design to start (and one color) if you want to have any success!

Fluidity #9

This is another piece where I used a scribble technique with the fluids
Anthraquione Blue and Cobalt Turquoise.
I am still mastering the technique of how to spray water!
How much to spray and if the spray is misty or fierce also
affects how long they take to dry obviously,
and you don't know what you're going to get.
But I like that aspect as though nature is taking over
and it gives time to move on to something else
and 'let go' of the outcome.

Fluidity #8

Not sure how I feel about this piece.
Colors are Green Gold & Manganese Blue
which make a gorgeous bright green combo.
I cropped it a little as the lower area was busy,
but it may still be too busy - what do you think?

Fluidity #7

Today I sprayed the paper with water and squirted in two colors:
Paynes Gray which is my go-to color every day in my canvas work
& Green Gold, with which I have a love-hate relationship.
It always looks like its going to be edgy & cool but it photographs poorly.
The spray pattern was mesmerizing and I decided not to mess with it
and just hoped it wouldn't change too much before it dried!

Fluidity #5

Again, only two colors and using a brush not palette knife.
Permanent Violet Dark and Prussian Blue, make a gorgeous deep purple,
but not too shabby on their own either.
I am choosing to keep things very simple for this 30 Day Challenge
as it can be very stressful to add a daily commitment to an already full schedule.
These 'explorations' are playful, quick and yet still teach me something.
Are you stressing out or have you chosen an easier path like I have?

This piece is using the colors Ultramarine Violet, Permanent Violet Dark
 & Cerulean Blue.
Looks fishy to me.

"Fluidity #2"

Using the colors Ultramarine Blue, Prussian Blue & Permanent Violet Dark - all Golden acrylic paints, they are probably not as diluted as I would have liked. So rather than sheer layering, one over the other, they covered over each other.   No brushes used either, just a plastic palette knife to spread the liquid about.  They take a long time to dry however, so I worked on 3 at a time.

This January 2017, 30 Paintings in 30 Days Series intends to be flowing and moving.
Calmly, simply and with ease.   A play of color, shape and mark-making.
Some will work, others may not.  It's all good...... remember....
