Majestic Magnolias

"Majestic Magnolias"
W/C on Arches 300#
11 x 11 image, 16x16 mat
$295

Don't you just love these large, dramatic flowers whose creamy purity is in such great contrast to the deep green, shiny confidence of it's sturdy,  thick and sharply pointy leaves?

And how about the backs of those leaves?.....another contrast...a coppery fuzz!
There is a genteel Southern charm to the entire combination.

I had to climb a ladder to get this photo reference, otherwise I would have been looking underneath the flower rather than into it.

In painting strong shine and deep shadows the 300# Arches paper was ideal to allow plenty of mingling of watercolor paint & some scrubbing to bring out the highlights in the leaves.

Hope you enjoy it - let me know what you think!
Hugs - Gillian

Heads 'n Tails"

"Heads 'n Tails"
11 x 14 Acrylic on canvas
$308

For anyone fortunate enough to have experienced Italy,
you might remember
the Italian penchant for statues everywhere!
How can you not be overawed
by the dramatic stories of passion and power carved in stone?
The artistic brilliance and practical execution of such an undertaking is breathtaking.

But on a hot summer's day in Florence, near the Palazzo Vecchio, despite the historical magnificence around them, some tourists are very glad of the cool stone to sit upon,
to stare off in to space distractedly or simply people-watch,
while time continues to tick on by!

This painting is to fondly remind you of your travels and to encourage you to plan a trip soon!
Even if it's from your armchair - Happy Travels!

Hugs - Gillian!

"Lightning Strikes"

"Lightning Strikes"
W/C on Arches 140#
Image 15 x15 Matted to 20 x 20
$450

We like to celebrate the 4th July fireworks with friends, out on our boat.  It's a tradition we've enjoyed for a number of years, unless a typical Florida afternoon summer storm chooses to arrive at picnic/supper time.   So when it's a gorgeous evening, we happily float about, enjoying a libation and snacks, waiting for the "works".  However, we have many a time seen in the distance, great billowing, quite beautiful, cloud formations building up, and have to keep our eye on them, being prepared to make a mad dash for home.  No one wants to be out on the water or even walking along the beach when there's a threat of nearby Florida lightning strikes...... or there's more than just fireworks going on!
Enjoy your day! - Gillian

"European Moments...."

"What's for Lunch?"
11 x 14
Acrylic on Gallery Canvas
$308

Some wonderful photographic opportunities pop up in summer when strolling the sea breezy, sun drenched, cobblestoned streets of France's Riviera.  In Cannes, this little boy appeared to be intently studying the menu of La Piazza, between balancing and licking his generous and drippy fruity pink gelato before the noon day sun melted it.
